Bandung City has once again proven its capacity as a national sports development hub by successfully hosting Series IV of the Executive Board of Taekwondo Indonesia (PBTI) Championship. The prestigious three-day event held at the GOR Bandung Arena attracted 1,700 athletes from 18 provinces across Indonesia.
The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, emphasized that being trusted to host the event is a form of appreciation for the city government's commitment to supporting the sports ecosystem. According to him, sports development must be carried out comprehensively, starting from fostering a sports culture in society to creating athletes with a champion mindset capable of competing on the international stage.
The results of this tiered development program are now yielding tangible results for Bandung City. Currently, two athletes from Bandung, Arjuna and Meka, are undergoing national training (pelatnas) as part of their preparations for the Olympics. This success serves as proof that Bandung's sports development has reached world-class achievement standards.
Vice Chairman of PBTI, Major General TNI Amrin Ibrahim, expressed high appreciation for the facilities and extraordinary enthusiasm shown by the Bandung City Government. He noted that this series of the championship was the most successful in terms of participation, even featuring 18 para-taekwondo athletes from six provinces, reflecting the inclusivity and rapid development of taekwondo in the country.
Meanwhile, PBTI Match Committee member Charles Christofers revealed that competition in this championship was highly competitive, especially in the senior category, which serves as a selection round for national training. So far, contingents from Bandung City and Central Java are predicted to be the strongest rivals dominating medal tallies across various contested categories.
