A forest fire broke out in the hilly area of Mount Gedhe, located in Kapanewon Imogiri, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The incident reportedly burned down at least 300 square meters of land owned by the Yogyakarta Sultanate, known as Sultan Ground (SG).
According to gathered information, the flames spread quickly due to dry vegetation conditions and strong winds in the hilly area. Firefighters, along with volunteers and local residents, immediately attempted to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading further toward residential areas.
As of now, conditions on the ground show that the fire has not been completely extinguished. Joint teams are still conducting dampening processes at the scene to ensure there are no hidden embers that could potentially trigger new hot spots.
The exact cause of the land fire is still under investigation by the authorities. The local government urges the public to increase vigilance and avoid actions that could trigger fires, such as burning trash unattended or carelessly discarding cigarette butts in high-risk areas.
