The management of the Mount Papandayan Nature Tourism Park (TWA) has officially clarified a viral video circulating on social media that claims a local resident was mauled by a tiger in the area. The management emphasized that the narrative, which has caused public concern, is false information or a hoax.
The clarification was issued through an official circular letter numbered 05/IWP/VII/2026, dated July 12, 2026. In their statement, the management declared that the situation and conditions in the Mount Papandayan area remain conducive, and there have been no reports of any wildlife attack as depicted in the video.
Based on further investigation, the viral video is believed to have originated outside the Mount Papandayan area in Garut Regency. The incident captured in the visual recording is highly suspected to be an explosion of an 81 Commando mortar shell located in Cipicang Village, Cipatat District, West Bandung Regency.
Responding to the spread of this misinformation, the Info Papandayan management urges the general public, especially outdoor enthusiasts and prospective hikers, to remain calm and not be easily provoked. The public is advised to always verify information through official channels before sharing it.
The management is committed to continuing to provide accurate updates regarding conditions in the tourism area. This preventive measure is taken to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors, while countering the negative impact of disinformation that harms the destination's image.
