The Provincial Government of North Sumatra officially opened the 50th North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) on Gatot Subroto Street, Medan, on Friday (3/7/2026). Entering its golden age, this annual event now carries a new, more ambitious mission: to become a key instrument in accelerating sustainable regional economic growth.
Vice Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, emphasized that PRSU is no longer just an entertainment hub for the community. The event has metamorphosed into a crucial showcase of development, where the government, investors, and business players can collaborate directly. Its main focus includes promoting regional potential, strengthening the tourism sector, and developing human resource quality.
"The 50th PRSU is a historical milestone. We are turning it into a meeting space for various sectors, ranging from trade, technological innovation, to the sports industry, to create an economic domino effect felt directly by the wider community," Surya stated in his opening address.
President Director of PT Pembangunan Prasarana Sumatera Utara (PPSU), Ferry Indra, added that over the next 31 days—specifically until August 2, 2026—the organization targets 300,000 visitors. A total of 33 regencies and cities in North Sumatra have committed to showcasing their flagship MSME products, investment opportunities, and rich local cultural heritage at their respective exhibition booths.
In addition to strengthening macroeconomic foundations and infrastructure, this year's event also pays close attention to key regional commodities. One of the main highlights is the massive promotion of North Sumatra coffee, aimed at strengthening the commodity's image in the international market while driving an increase in regional export figures.
With integrated cross-sector synergy, this year's PRSU is expected to send a positive signal that North Sumatra has strong competitiveness, both at the national level and in the global arena.
