The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, asserted that the strategic role of higher education institutions is highly crucial in creating superior human resources. According to him, the quality of education must align with the national development agenda, which includes food security, industrial downstreaming, the blue economy, and digital transformation.
In a public lecture delivered to the cadres of the Central Executive Board of the National Student and Youth Movement (DPP GMPK), Minister Brian highlighted the importance of mastering science and technology. He specifically reminded students to use artificial intelligence (AI) wisely as a learning support tool, rather than letting it become a dependency that weakens fundamental academic understanding.
In addition to intellectual aspects, Minister Brian emphasized that national competitiveness highly depends on a resilient individual character. Campuses are expected to be the crucible for the birth of innovation and breakthroughs, where every challenge faced by students should be viewed as a process of maturation to achieve a higher self-capacity.
As a concrete step, students are encouraged to delve into the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Mastering these fields, combined with a high work ethic, perseverance, and social awareness, is believed to be the key to leading Indonesia towards the status of a high-income developed country in the future.
