The shrimp farming sector in Thanh Hoa Province is entering a new era through the adoption of high technology replacing conventional methods. Farmers have begun integrating automated feeding systems, real-time water quality monitoring, and 24-hour waste drainage systems. This transformation has proven to significantly reduce operational costs while minimizing the risk of crop failures that often plague traditional methods.
The use of automatic feeding machines is a key factor in maintaining stable shrimp growth. According to field technician Le Anh Tuan, the timing precision of nutrient delivery is crucial to prevent underfeeding, which can stunt shrimp development. Additionally, an automatic pond bottom cleaning system removes organic waste and dead shrimp more hygienically without requiring extensive labor.
Shifting to a high-tech model does require a substantial capital investment, ranging from 3 to 4 billion VND per hectare. However, Ho Van Duong, Director of Anh Quan Hai Chau Co., Ltd., emphasized that the resulting efficiency justifies the cost. Currently, one hectare of land requires only two workers, far more economical than the old system which needed up to five workers for the same area.
Data from the Department of Fisheries of Thanh Hoa Province shows that this technology integration can boost productivity up to 30 to 50 tons per hectare per harvest. With the capability to conduct two to three harvest cycles a year, farmers now have better control over product quality, making them better prepared for modern market challenges that demand sustainable standards.
