The Garut Regency Government has officially strengthened its commitment to fulfilling the basic rights of inmates by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Class IIB Garut Correctional Facility (Lapas). This strategic initiative aims to integrate regional healthcare services into the correctional environment.
The Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, emphasized that the local government's presence in managing the health of inmates is a form of humanitarian responsibility. According to him, even though they are undergoing legal processes, the right to proper medical services must still be guaranteed and not neglected.
"We must not allow the health conditions of inmates to be neglected. This is a form of commitment from the Garut Regency Government to ensure that legal status does not become a barrier for someone to obtain adequate access to healthcare," said Syakur after the signing ceremony.
As a concrete step, the Garut Regency Government has instructed the local Health Office to immediately draft the technical implementation of services in the field. The main focus of this cooperation includes improving the quality of disease prevention, intensive treatment processes, and guidance for a healthy lifestyle for all inmates.
This step is expected to create a healthier correctional environment, allowing the rehabilitation process of inmates to run more optimally with the support of adequate and non-discriminatory healthcare facilities.
