The Serang Municipal Government (Pemkot) has established a strategic collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) by holding a Participatory Workshop on the UNDERVAC-ID study. The event, which took place at the Aston Hotel, Serang City, on July 7, 2026, focused on strengthening regional commitment and multi-sectoral synergy to achieve complete basic immunization coverage targets for children in the region.
The results of the intensive two-day discussion mapped out various challenges related to the zero dose phenomenon and incomplete immunization. As a solution, the expert team and the government formulated six main recommendations, including an initiative to make proof of immunization an administrative requirement for obtaining birth certificates and an eligibility requirement for school entry through a Mayoral policy.
Other preventive measures include intensifying social media campaigns, actively involving religious and community leaders, and strengthening the capacity of health workers. Interestingly, the program also features the innovation of 'Immunization Father's Day' and the formation of a father's advocacy community to increase parental involvement in supporting child health.
Assistant to the Regional Secretary 2 of Serang City, Yudi Suryadi, expressed his support for all the recommendations. He emphasized that the government would immediately follow up on the results of this discussion with regional leaders for collective implementation alongside all Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) and community elements.
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of the Serang City Health Office, Ahmad Hasanudin, appreciated the contribution of iMERI and the UNDERVAC-ID team for the technical assistance provided. He is optimistic that the synergy established between academia and the local government will be an effective catalyst in creating a healthier generation of children in Serang City.
