The Vice Regent of Murung Raya, Rahmanto Muhidin, officially opened the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Futsal Tournament for the Barito River Basin (DAS) and Gunung Mas Regency at GOR Tana Malai Tolung Lingu, Puruk Cahu, on Sunday (12/7/2026). This event serves as an important platform to strengthen brotherhood among members of the press in the region.
Present at the opening ceremony were regional officials, including the Speaker of the Murung Raya Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Rumiadi and Acting Regional Secretary Sarwo Mintarjo. In his speech, Rahmanto emphasized the importance of this sporting activity as a means of communication and deeper collaboration for journalists from various regencies, namely Murung Raya, North Barito, South Barito, East Barito, and Gunung Mas.
Echoing these sentiments, the Chairman of PWI Murung Raya, Lulus Riadi, expressed his appreciation for the local government's full support. According to him, this competition is not just about chasing the championship title, but also a recreational space for journalists to unwind from the hectic rhythm of field reporting while maintaining physical health.
Supriadi, as the chairman of the organizing committee, stated that the tournament is being held again after a two-year hiatus. Although technical difficulties prevented the delegation from South Barito from participating, the participants' enthusiasm remained high. A grant from the Murung Raya Regency Government is the main supporter of this activity.
The organizers have prepared millions of rupiah in total prizes for the winners, as well as medical facilities to ensure the safety of the athletes. Through this tournament, it is hoped that the spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity among PWI members throughout the Barito River Basin can be maintained and grow even stronger in the future.
