President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia's strong commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with India, particularly in the higher education sector. During a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026), the two world leaders agreed to open opportunities for establishing branch campuses of prestigious Indian educational institutions, namely the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), in Indonesia.
This step is taken as a concrete effort to improve the competitiveness of human resources in the country through the transfer of knowledge and technology. In addition to establishing branch campuses in Indonesia, the governments of both countries are also committed to facilitating an increase in the number of Indonesian students studying in India as part of cross-border academic exchanges.
Not only targeting the education sector, this collaboration also extends to the realms of energy security and health. In the agenda of the talks, Indonesia and India highlighted the importance of developing solar power plant projects, as well as exchanging nuclear technology to support future energy independence. Strengthening the capacity of medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, was also a crucial point in deepening the partnership between the two countries.
President Prabowo is optimistic that this series of agreements will be implemented in the near future. The main focus of this cooperation is to ensure that all designed programs can deliver positive impacts and tangible benefits to the wider public in both countries, while strengthening Indonesia's position on the global stage through its strategic partnership with India.
