The management of the Indonesian Sambo Federation (Persambi) South Kalimantan is currently awaiting certainty regarding the inclusion of sambo as a sports discipline in the 2028 National Sports Week (PON), which will be held in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

Although the official list of competing sports has not yet been finalized and released by the relevant authorities, Persambi South Kalimantan remains hopeful. This optimism stems from sambo's successful inclusion in the competition lineup at the 21st PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024.

Secretary General of Persambi South Kalimantan, Ricky Fajar Adi Putra, revealed that the Central Executive Board (PB) of Persambi is currently engaging in intensive diplomacy. Strategic communications have been established with the central KONI, regional government officials, and the host committee to ensure sambo remains recognized in the upcoming national sports gala.

While awaiting an official decree from the central government and KONI, Persambi South Kalimantan is committed to maintaining its training intensity. Athlete development programs continue to run sustainably as a mitigation step and thorough preparation, ensuring that when the official decision is announced, the athletes will be in peak condition to compete nationally.
