Rejection of the planned construction of the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) in the Gunung Rajabasa area, South Lampung Regency, has once again sparked a wave of opposition from indigenous communities. Through a peaceful action of simultaneously installing banners in four districts on Thursday (16/7/2026), the Gunung Rajabasa Community Care Movement (GMPGR), part of the Segekhi Suku Forum, reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the environment and ancestral lands.
The installation of these aspirational banners proceeded peacefully from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM WIB in the areas of Kalianda, Rajabasa, Penengahan, and Bakauheni. This action is a continuation of the official aspirations previously submitted to the Regency Government and the South Lampung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) in late June.
A representative of the forum explained that the banners installed were not merely props, but symbols of their struggle's values. The use of white fabric symbolizes the purity of intent in carrying on the ancestors' legacy of protecting nature, while the red writing underscores the courage and firmness of the residents' stance in opposing exploitation that could potentially damage the local ecosystem.
The Chairman of the Segekhi Suku Forum, Beta Rahmi, who holds the title Adok Pengikhan Pukuk Sabuay Nimbau, stated there is no room for negotiation or compromise regarding the drilling project. For him, protecting the Gunung Rajabasa area is non-negotiable for the sake of future generations, given the critical importance of the mountain from ecological, cultural, and spiritual perspectives.
The forum also urged all elements of the South Lampung community to remain united and reject the lure of short-term gains that could sacrifice the balance of nature. The struggle will continue through peaceful legal channels to ensure Gunung Rajabasa continues to function as the primary life support for the region.
