Violence has once again struck the inland region of Highland Papua. An aircraft belonging to the AMA airline with registration code PK-RCY was reportedly targeted and burned by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Balinggama Village, Sobaham District, Yahukimo Regency, on Thursday (2/7/2026).
Yahukimo Police Chief, Police Grand Commissioner Attendant Zet Salino, confirmed receiving reports regarding the incident. However, the police have not yet been able to provide detailed information regarding the physical condition of the aircraft or the whereabouts of the pilot operating the plane at the time of the incident.
Geographical challenges remain the main obstacle in the evacuation and investigation process. Given that Balinggama Village can only be accessed by air, the joint security forces team requires extra time to reach the coordinates of the incident to conduct on-site verification.
As of this report, the security team is continuing coordination efforts to reach the location. The police urge the public to remain calm and await further official statements once the field team succeeds in obtaining accurate data regarding the incident.
