The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has prepared 600 non-commissioned officers (bintara) to be assigned to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) City Police Headquarters (Polresta). This step was taken as a strategic effort to build a modern security system that will serve as the standard in the new capital region.
East Kalimantan Regional Police Chief, Police Inspector General Endar Priantoro, revealed that hundreds of these personnel have been prepared since last year. The main focus of their assignment is to integrate advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), integrated CCTV surveillance systems, and the use of body-worn cameras to support field operations.
Currently, police operational processes in the area are still running through temporary headquarters supported by around 80 active personnel. While awaiting the construction of the IKN Polresta Headquarters, which is targeted for completion in 2027, the police continue to gradually adjust personnel numbers in line with the escalation of government and resident activities in the area.
Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, welcomed this step by Polri. According to him, the presence of a definitive police structure is a crucial element to accelerate the resolution of public order and security issues during the transition period of developing Indonesia's new government center.
The synergy between the IKN Authority and Polri is expected to create a safe and efficient public service ecosystem. With the support of high-tech infrastructure, IKN Polresta is projected to become a modern policing model responsive to future security challenges.
