President Prabowo Subianto has officially affirmed the direction of government policy in strengthening the national sports ecosystem. The main focus of this policy is directed toward creating a more inclusive and sustainable development system for all athletes in the country.

The statement was made following a meeting between the President and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, as well as the head coach of the Indonesian National Football Team, John Herdman. This strategic discussion took place at the President's private residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Friday (19/6/2026).

In his directives, the President emphasized the importance of special attention to the development of sports for people with disabilities so that they receive an equal share of coaching as other athletes. This step is part of the government's grand vision to ensure that national sports achievements do not only focus on conventional sports, but also reach all levels of athletes equally.

In addition to inclusivity aspects, the meeting also highlighted the urgency of long-term athlete development management. The government is determined to create a consistent regeneration pathway to permanently maintain Indonesia's competitiveness on the international stage, rather than merely a pragmatic response to specific sporting events.
