The Gunung Mas Regency Government has officially started operations of the Integrated People's School (SRT) 54 in Tumbang Tambirah Village, Kurun District. This milestone was marked by the opening of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for 231 new students of the 2026/2027 academic year through an open house event on Friday (31/7/2026).
The Regent of Gunung Mas, Jaya S. Monong, emphasized the importance of this orientation period so that students can quickly adapt to the boarding school lifestyle. He instructed that the entire series of activities be ensured to be safe, fun, and free from all forms of bullying.
Jaya explained that the existence of the People's School is a form of synergy between the central and regional governments to provide equal access to quality education. This program is also integrated with the regional program, Tambun Bungai Cerdas, to prepare the younger generation to build the region.
Acting Head of the Gunung Mas Regency Social Services Office, Baryen, detailed that out of the quota of 270 seats provided, 231 students are actively registered after going through a rigorous selection process from early June to July 2026. This figure includes 90 elementary school students (SD), 90 junior high school students (SMP), and 51 high school students (SMA).
Given that the construction of the school's main infrastructure in Tumbang Tambirah Village is still ongoing, the regional government is making tactical adjustments to the facilities. The MPLS activities are temporarily centered at the Multipurpose Hall, while the boys' dormitory uses the high school learning building and the girls' dormitory occupies the junior high school girls' building as temporary housing.
