The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia has officially confirmed the tragic incident involving one of its citizens while climbing Mount Elbrus, Russia. The tragic event reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to an official statement, the victim was part of a climbing group consisting of three Malaysian nationals. They were known to have used the services of a local climbing tour operator in Russia to conquer the highest peak in Europe.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow took swift action by establishing intensive communication with the deceased's family in Malaysia. In addition, the embassy is also providing assistance to the two other surviving climbers to ensure their consular needs are met.
To date, the ministry continues to monitor the development of the situation on the ground. The Malaysian government is committed to overseeing the entire coordination process so that all matters regarding the repatriation and handling of the body can proceed smoothly.
In its official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia also extended its deepest condolences to the family for the loss suffered during the climbing expedition.
