The Samarinda City Government, in collaboration with the Samarinda Class I State Detention Center (Rutan), organized a Free Health Checkup program, tuberculosis (TB) screening, and a blood donation drive on Monday (3/8/2026). The activity, centered at the Class I Samarinda Detention Center on KH Wahid Hasyim II Street, North Samarinda District, targeted hundreds of inmates and local detention center staff.
This collaborative program is designed as a preventive measure to regularly monitor the physical health of the detention center's inmates while breaking the chain of transmission of infectious diseases at an early stage. The local government emphasized the importance of fulfilling the right to healthcare services for all inmates without exception.
The Deputy Mayor of Samarinda, Saefuddin Zuhri, expressed his appreciation for the high enthusiasm of the participants taking part in this medical checkup. He emphasized that cross-agency synergy of this kind is crucial to maintaining a peaceful environment and high health standards within correctional institutions.
As a precautionary measure, Saefuddin explained that inmates showing signs of dangerous infectious diseases like TB will immediately receive intensive medical treatment. They will be placed in a special isolation room temporarily until they are declared fully recovered by the medical team before being allowed to reintegrate with other inmates.
Furthermore, this proactive outreach healthcare service is part of an ongoing program by the Samarinda City Government. Previously, a similar initiative was successfully carried out at the Class IIA Samarinda Prison, and it is planned to target the Bayur Narcotics Prison in the next phase. Regular evaluations will continue to be conducted at each stage to ensure the quality of healthcare services in prisons and detention centers becomes increasingly optimal.
