DENPASAR - Efforts to manage organic waste based on environmentally friendly technology in Bali are increasingly attracting attention from various regions in Indonesia. Most recently, the Bontang City Government, together with the Bontang City Environmental Forum, conducted a field visit to the waste management facility owned by PT Enviro Mas Sejahtera in the Pemecutan Kaja area, North Denpasar.

This working visit aims to directly observe the operations of the Somya Rapid Digester, an innovative technology capable of rapidly converting organic waste into compost. This innovation is touted as a cutting-edge solution that is not only practical, but also safe for the environment as it does not produce methane gas or leachate.

President Director of PT Enviro Mas Sejahtera, Anak Agung Ngurah Panji Astika, welcomed this interest from outside the Island of the Gods. He hopes that the Bontang City Government's step can trigger similar collaborations with local governments in Bali. According to him, synergy between regency/city governments and the private sector is crucial in accelerating the resolution of the organic waste crisis in Bali.

Previously, the effectiveness of the Somya Rapid Digester technology had also attracted the attention of important national figures, including the Minister of Environment and Forestry, as well as the former Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster. Plans for a review by the Executive Office of the President (KSP) are also currently being prepared.

The Mayor of Bontang, dr. Hj. Neni Moerniaeni, Sp.OG, revealed that this visit is part of an annual comparative study to adopt best practices in environmental management. As an industrial city, Bontang is committed to promoting sustainable development. Her administration will further study the cost-efficiency and operational aspects of the machine before deciding to implement this technology in their region.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Bontang City Environmental Forum, Eddy Susanto, explained that their city produces around 120 tons of waste per day, half of which is organic waste. The implementation of waste processing technology at the source, such as the Somya Rapid Digester, is expected to significantly reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills (TPA).
