A forest and land fire struck the Mount Pucang Rangga Block area, Condro Village, Pasirian District, Lumajang Regency, on Friday (10/7/2026) night. The incident scorched approximately two hectares of dry vegetation, consisting of brushwood and weeds beneath stands of teak and johar trees.
Chief Executive of Lumajang Regency BPBD, Isnugroho, confirmed that the blaze was first detected at around 17:40 WIB. Prompt reporting from local residents was a crucial factor that allowed a joint team from BPBD, Perhutani, TNI-Polri elements, and the village government to immediately take mitigation measures.
Given that the terrain access made it impossible for fire engines to approach, the team on the ground utilized manual equipment. The extinguishing process was carried out using the wet branch beating technique, iron rakes, and the creation of firebreaks to sever the fire's spread. These collective efforts successfully brought the situation under full control by 20:15 WIB.
Field assessment results indicated that the fire occurred approximately 1.5 kilometers from residential areas, thereby minimizing the threat to residents. Authorities suspect the hotspot emerged due to friction between rocks on dry land, which sparked in the midst of extreme heat during the current dry season.
This event occurred amidst the implementation of the Emergency Response status for Drought and Forest and Land Fires (Karhutla) in Lumajang Regency, based on the 2026 Regent's Decree.
