A dramatic search effort for two hikers on Mount Jantan, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands, ended with a positive result. A joint SAR team successfully located the two young men, M. Rizki and Dika, safe and sound in the early hours of Friday (10/7/2026).
Head of the Tanjungpinang Class A SAR Office, Fazzli, explained that the incident began when the two hikers started their ascent on Thursday (9/7) afternoon. The situation worsened when they realized they had lost their way along the hiking trail around 21:00 WIB. Communication with their families was cut off shortly after because the victims' mobile phones ran out of battery.
Responding to an emergency report received at 22:33 WIB, the Rescue Team from the Tanjung Balai Karimun SAR Post was immediately deployed to the location. In the search operation conducted in the dead of night, the team utilized thermal drone technology to detect the victims' body heat in hard-to-reach forest areas.
The hard work of the joint team, which involved elements of the Karimun Police, BPBD, village officials, and the local community, bore fruit. At 00:40 WIB, both hikers were found about 50 meters from the starting point of the climb. They were immediately evacuated to the post for further medical treatment before being handed over to their families.
With the rescue of the two hikers, the search operation was officially closed at 01:10 WIB. The Tanjungpinang SAR appreciated the solidarity of all elements involved in this rapid rescue and urged the public to always prioritize safety procedures when conducting outdoor activities.
