Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (Umsida), through its Mental Health Study Center in collaboration with the Porong Branch Executive of 'Aisyiyah (PCA), inaugurated the Khusnul Khotimah Elderly Daycare on Sunday (7/5/2026). Located within the KB & TK Aisyiyah 1 Porong complex, this facility was initiated as a community service effort to create a space for the elderly to remain independent, productive, and enjoy a better quality of life.
The Chair of PCA Porong, Dra. Ni’mah Setiawati, M.Pd., expressed high appreciation for the synergy established. She hopes that the presence of this daycare will mark a turning point toward more inclusive social services, enabling the elderly in the Porong District area to receive structured emotional support and social interaction.
During the psychoeducation session, a lecturer from Umsida's Faculty of Health and Psychology, Lely Ika Mariyati, M.Psi., Psychologist, stressed the vital role of social activities in mental health. According to her, productive seniors do not necessarily need to be free from physical decline, but should remain active through simple activities such as group discussions, religious activities, and joint exercises to support psychological well-being.
In addition to mental education, the inauguration event also featured free health check-up services led by Andika Aliviameita, S.ST., M.Si., along with students from Umsida's Medical Laboratory Technology program. This program not only serves to detect disease risks early but also provides valuable clinical experience for students to build empathy when interacting with elderly patients.
The enthusiasm of the approximately 100 participants in attendance is clear proof that access to preventive healthcare services and social spaces for the elderly is urgently needed by the community. The existence of the Khusnul Khotimah Elderly Daycare is expected to serve as a role model for the development of similar services in various other regions.
