Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD), through its Community Service Program (PkM), has once again strengthened public health literacy. This time, the activity focused on members of the Aisyiyah Branch Executive (PRA) Bangunharjo I, Bantul, to commemorate the 109th Milad (anniversary) of Aisyiyah at TK ABA Randubelang on Sunday (5/7/2026).
Lecturer at UAD's Master of Public Health Program, Prof. Dr. Surahma Asti Mulasari, S.Si., M.Kes., was present to provide education on healthy lifestyle guidance. The main focus of this activity was to introduce the technological innovation "Mobile-Based Smart Scales" as a practical instrument for accurately monitoring body weight and body composition.
The participants, consisting of dozens of women from various hamlets, enthusiastically took part in a series of health checks. They received screenings including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and blood pressure as preventive measures against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and stroke.
Prof. Surahma emphasized the importance of early detection, given that non-communicable diseases are often asymptomatic until serious complications arise. According to her, self-monitoring using simple yet measurable parameters is key to reducing health risks at the family level.
In addition to health checks, participants received education on balanced diet management and the importance of limiting daily intake of sugar, salt, and fat. Siti Nurjanah, Chair of PRA Bangunharjo I, welcomed this initiative and expressed hope that research-based educational programs like this would continue in the future.
This activity represents a tangible implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by UAD. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that community health awareness in the Bangunharjo area will increase sustainably through technology-based empowerment.
