A long search effort involving a joint team for nearly two weeks has finally come to a close. Two teenagers from Krinjing Hamlet, Krinjing Village, Watumalang District, Wonosobo Regency, namely Arifin Nurrohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), were found dead at the bottom of a ravine in the Mount Bismo area on Sunday (12/7/2026).

The two victims were previously reported missing since June 30, 2026. It is strongly suspected that they took a traditional climbing route through their village before falling into a 284-meter-deep ravine in the Curug Kali Preng area.

The evacuation process carried out by the joint team was highly challenging and took about seven hours. Given the steep and narrow cliff terrain, rescuers had to employ vertical rescue techniques with the help of a special rope system to lift the bodies from the bottom of the ravine to the evacuation post.

The Head of Watumalang District, Arief Hardiyanto, confirmed that the victims were found after the Wanadri Bandung team conducted a follow-up sweep, after the official SAR operation had been previously halted. "The extreme terrain with a ravine depth reaching 284 meters made the evacuation process very difficult and required extra precision," Arief said.

After being successfully evacuated on Sunday night, the bodies were immediately taken to Setjonegoro Regional Hospital (RSUD) in Wonosobo for identification by the Inafis team. After all administrative and funerary procedures were completed, the hospital handed the bodies over to the village government to be returned to the families for a proper burial.
