The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has officially denied the truth of a video depicting a major eruption at Mount Anak Krakatau. The viral footage, which is less than a minute long, has been confirmed not to be documentation of the latest activity of the volcano located in the Sunda Strait.
Acting Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, explained that after technical verification, the footage showing an eruption accompanied by flashes of light did not match real data in the field. She emphasized that all valid information regarding volcanic activity is only released through official government channels, such as the PVMBG and the MAGMA Indonesia application.
According to official records, Mount Anak Krakatau did experience two minor eruptions on Thursday (2/7) and Friday (3/7), but the height of the ash column only reached about 200 meters above the peak. She also clarified rumors regarding the expansion of the safe zone to 5 kilometers, emphasizing that the recommended radius remains at 3 kilometers from the eruption center as the volcano's status is still at Level III (Alert/Siaga).
Lana Saria also urged the public in the coastal areas of Banten and Lampung to remain calm and not be provoked by wild rumors linking the volcano's activity to a potential tsunami. The public is asked not to spread unverified content and to continue following directives from local authorities.
