The Deli Serdang Regency Government has officially commenced the 2026 Deli Serdang Sports Gala. The opening of this prestigious event was marked by a football match kick-off by the Regent of Deli Serdang, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, accompanied by Deputy Regent Lom Lom Suwondo at the Baharoedin Siregar Stadium, Lubuk Pakam, on Saturday (1/8/2026).

A total of 22 representative teams from all sub-districts in Deli Serdang Regency participated in the football competition. In addition to football, the event, which runs from August 1 to 10, 2026, also features several other sports, such as table tennis, volleyball, badminton, and skateboarding. This competition is part of the integration of the Sports, Arts and Culture, and Religious Events Program (EVORIA).

The Regent of Deli Serdang, dr. H. Asri Ludin Tambunan, explained that besides celebrating the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, this event is designed as preparation for the North Sumatra Provincial Sports Week (Porprov Sumut). This event is expected to be a stage for local athletes to showcase their talent and gain more competitive experience in a healthy environment.

Furthermore, Asri Ludin emphasized the importance of a sustainable competition platform to protect the younger generation from the negative influence of drugs and other harmful activities. The local government is committed to monitoring and facilitating highly potential athletes so they are ready to represent Deli Serdang at the provincial level.

Not only focusing on athlete development, the Deli Serdang Regency Government is also currently boosting the improvement of supporting infrastructure. On this occasion, the Regent inspected the construction of futsal and basketball courts, and revealed plans to renovate the Baharoedin Siregar Stadium to make it more representative for hosting national-scale sports events.
