The Malinau Regency Government continues its efforts to transform education by emphasizing the importance of integrating technological advancements with student character building. Malinau Regent, Wempi W. Mawa, stressed that academic ability alone is no longer enough to equip students to face global competition in today's digital era.
During a capacity-building event for kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school principals at the Malinau Regent's Office on Monday (6/7/2026), Wempi encouraged educators to be more adaptive to digitalization. He stated that the use of technology should be viewed as a strategic instrument to improve the quality of educational services, including reaching students in remote areas.
In addition to digital innovation, the Regent highlighted the urgency of strengthening basic literacy skills, namely reading, writing, and arithmetic. He gave strict instructions that every student completing primary education must have adequate literacy skills as a foundation for higher education levels.
Wempi also pays great attention to character education in the school environment. According to him, teachers have a moral responsibility to serve as role models for students in terms of discipline, responsibility, and integrity. He considers that an educator's success is also reflected in their ability to shape positive behavioral changes in students toward greater discipline.
As a strategic step, the Regent instructed that synergy between schools and parents be continuously enhanced. Harmonious collaboration between schools and families is seen as the main key to ensuring that student character development can proceed consistently and effectively.
