The long search for two teenagers from Krinjing Village, Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15), who went missing on Mount Bismo finally came to an end. Both were found dead on Sunday (July 12) in the valley area around Curug Tiga, after being declared missing since June 30, 2026.
Head of Wonosobo BPBD, Sumekto Hendro, revealed that the bodies were discovered accidentally by a team from Wanadri conducting an additional search, despite the official search operation having been closed on Saturday (July 11). The steep terrain with a valley depth reaching 200 meters and dense forest vegetation made the evacuation process involving hundreds of volunteers difficult and time-consuming.
When found, the bodies of both victims had begun decomposing, indicating that they had been dead for quite some time. According to initial reports, the two teenagers were known to have climbed the 2,365-meter-high mountain without their families' permission and with very minimal supplies.
After being successfully evacuated to the basecamp at night, both bodies were immediately rushed to the hospital for mortuary preparation before being handed over to their families at the funeral home for burial. The Wonosobo BPBD expressed their highest appreciation to all parties involved in the search and evacuation efforts.
Mount Bismo, which is part of the Dieng Volcanic Complex, is indeed known for its exotic landscape. However, this tragic incident serves as a stern reminder to hikers about the importance of thorough preparation and compliance with safety procedures when trekking in mountainous areas.
