The Batam City Government has high hopes for the hosting of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series and FIBA 3x3 Challenger Batam 2026 international basketball tournaments. This prestigious event is expected to become a new driving force for the sport tourism sector while reviving the local economy.
Batam Mayor and Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad, openly urged all elements of society to pack the match arena located at Engku Putri Plain, Batam Centre. According to him, this momentum is a golden opportunity for Batam to prove itself as a friendly and professional host in organizing global-scale sports events.
To ensure the success of the event, the Batam City Government along with BP Batam have ensured that all supporting infrastructure and arena readiness have been well prepared. Amsakar also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) of the Riau Islands and the organizing committee who have worked hard to prepare for this world-class tournament.
Furthermore, he is optimistic that the presence of athletes, officials, and foreign tourists will bring a positive domino effect to productive sectors in Batam. Their presence is projected to boost hotel occupancy rates, advance the transportation and culinary sectors, and empower local MSMEs and creative industries through increased spending activities.
