Meta Platforms Inc. has officially changed the access model for artificial intelligence (AI) features on its smart glasses devices. The tech giant has now begun limiting the use of AI-based features for free users and directing them to switch to a subscription service called Meta One Premium.

This latest policy specifically targets the Conversational Focus feature. Previously, users could access this feature freely, but now free access is limited to just three hours per month. Once this quota is exhausted, users are required to become premium subscribers to continue using the technology at full capacity.

To enjoy unlimited access to premium AI features, Meta has set a subscription fee of $20 per month or approximately $240 per year. This move is seen as a strategic effort by Meta to adopt a subscription-based business model for their hardware ecosystem, in line with the expansion of the company's smart glasses product line to a broader market.

For reference, Conversational Focus is a flagship feature designed to enhance the user interaction experience. This technology allows the device to maintain the context of a conversation, enabling the AI to provide more relevant and continuous answers when users ask follow-up questions, without requiring users to repeat the background information at the beginning.
