The Community Empowerment Council (MPM) of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah has taken concrete steps to strengthen the economy of coastal communities in the northern coast region of Lamongan. Through the socialization of the Muhammadiyah Fishermen Congregation (Jalamu) program, the organization is driving the optimization of marine potential in Paciran District using appropriate technology.

The event, which took place at the Hall of MI Muhammadiyah 03 Weru, Paciran, on Friday (24/7/2026), was attended directly by the Chairman of MPM PP Muhammadiyah, Dr. M. Nurul Yamin, M.Si., along with around 100 participants. This activity focused on education regarding technology innovations in processing catches so that marine commodities have a higher selling value.

In his direction, Nurul Yamin explained that coastal communities, including crew members (ABK) and their families, often face complex economic challenges. The soaring operational costs of seafaring are frequently disproportionate to income, compounded by weather uncertainty due to climate change that disrupts fishermen's activities.

To overcome these obstacles, Jalamu is here as an inclusive platform regardless of organizational background. The program focuses on the application of appropriate technology to process raw catches into value-added products, so fishermen no longer rely on selling cheap raw materials.

This empowerment synergy is worked on from upstream to downstream through close collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Zakat, Infaq, and Alms Institution (Lazismu). The initial steps began by conducting comprehensive mapping and assessments of the real needs of fishermen and seafood processing business actors in the field.

On the other hand, MPM Muhammadiyah also highlighted the importance of profession regeneration in the maritime sector. Yamin emphasized the need to revive the interest of the local younger generation to enter the fisheries sector to maintain the sustainability of the maritime economy in the future.

To ensure the success of this program, active involvement from various Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations, such as Aisyiyah, Pemuda Muhammadiyah, and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah, is highly expected, especially in expanding market networks. Paciran is projected to become a national pilot model in the transformation of community-based economic propagation (dakwah) for fishermen.
