Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) held an Open Session Commemorating 106 Years of Higher Engineering Education in Indonesia (PTTI) at the West Hall, Ganesha Campus, Bandung, on Friday (3/7/2026). This momentum serves as a reflection on the institution's major contribution for over a century in producing outstanding human resources and generating various innovations for the nation's progress.
The Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., in his remarks, emphasized that the history of engineering education is not merely a record of the past, but the foundation for building the future. He highlighted that in the modern era, the excellence of a university is no longer measured by its independence, but by its ability to collaborate and become a connecting hub for various intelligences for the common good.
The scientific oration at the event was delivered by renewable energy expert Tri Mumpuni, who raised the crucial issue of the balance between economic growth, social justice, and ecosystem sustainability. According to her, science and technology must be directed to deliver inclusive impacts, utilizing Indonesia's biodiversity and geographical diversity as a comparative advantage in facing global challenges such as the energy transition and food security.
As a form of appreciation for dedication to the development of science and education, ITB presented awards to 20 influential figures. A total of 11 figures received the Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama award, while 9 others were awarded the Ganesa Wirya Jasa Adiutama for their concrete contributions to the progress of the institution and higher engineering education in Indonesia.
Closing the series of events, the Rector of ITB emphasized that the true legacy of a university lies in an open and collaborative culture of thinking. ITB is committed to continuously adapting to changing times, while positioning itself as a guardian of human values and a pioneer of innovation oriented towards sustainable development.
