The Situbondo Regency Government is set to begin a new chapter for Mimbaan Baru Market in Panji District. After 37 years with minimal upgrades, the market, which serves as the region's economic lifeline, will undergo a total restoration to meet the public's need for a more modern and organized facility.
Regent of Situbondo, Yusuf Rio Wahyu Prayogo, conducted a direct inspection of the location on Wednesday (1/7/2026) to ensure project readiness. In its master plan, the Situbondo Regency Government will not merely repair the building structure, but also transform the market into a multifunctional hub featuring green open spaces, family recreation rides, and cultural performance areas.
"We want to restore the glory of this market by making it a comfortable destination for families and children. If the atmosphere is lively and attractive, trade activity will automatically increase, thereby providing direct benefits to vendors," said the Regent, affectionately known as Mas Rio.
The initial phase of the rehabilitation will focus on the northern area using an open-space concept. In this zone, the local government plans to provide a platform for the youth to engage in entrepreneurship, supported by rental incentive schemes that are more friendly to novice business owners. The integration of shops, culinary centers, and children's play facilities is expected to create a sustainable business ecosystem.
In addition to the economic and recreational sectors, a major innovation will also feature on the second floor of the market building: the operation of a Public Service Mall (MPP). This integration aims to allow citizens managing government administrative matters to shop or enjoy culinary offerings simultaneously, which is expected to significantly boost economic activity in the area.
