Commemorating five decades of Indonesia's satellite journey, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) emphasized the urgency of space technology independence. The spirit that began with the launch of the Palapa A1 Satellite is now directed towards transforming Indonesia's position, from being a mere consumer to becoming a creator and owner of satellite technology on the global stage.
Director General of Digital Infrastructure of Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, specifically challenged young innovators to actively participate in the development of the domestic satellite ecosystem. According to him, mastering satellite infrastructure is a crucial instrument in maintaining information resilience and the nation's digital sovereignty in the future.
As a regulator and facilitator, the government is committed to continuously optimizing the management of the frequency spectrum and the coordination of orbital slots at the international level. This strategic step is accompanied by the drafting of regulations that provide legal certainty for the industry, in order to attract investment while strengthening the national satellite technology supply chain.
Furthermore, collaboration between the government sector, academia, and research institutions is considered the main key to the success of this ecosystem. Appreciation was also given to the winners of the Indonesia Aerospace Hackathon 2026, who are deemed to represent the great potential of Indonesia's young talent in solving complex space technology challenges.
This 50th-anniversary commemoration is not only a historical reflection but also an invitation to look to the future. Through synergy between stakeholders, Kemkomdigi is optimistic that Indonesia can expand its space technology capacity to support the "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision, which is highly competitive in the digital sector.
