Jakarta has once again reaffirmed its position as the locomotive of the national economy through an increasingly massive acceleration of digital transformation. The latest data from Bank Indonesia (BI) shows that the volume of QRIS transactions in the capital reached 3.8 billion through May 2026, a significant achievement representing a 212 percent surge compared to the same period in the previous year.
At the Jakarta Kreatif Festival (JKF) 2026 held at Istora Senayan, BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta emphasized Jakarta's vital role in Indonesia's economic stability. Contributing 16.7 percent to the national economy, Jakarta is viewed as a national showcase whose stability must be continuously maintained, especially with June 2026 inflation remaining well-controlled at 2.78 percent.
Digitalization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is now a top priority for Bank Indonesia. Through integration into the QRIS system, MSMEs are expected to expand market access and increase business capacity amid global economic dynamics. BI itself targets a national milestone of 17 billion QRIS transactions supported by 47 million integrated merchants by 2026.
Meanwhile, Head of the BI Representative Office for DKI Jakarta Province, Iwan Setiawan, described JKF 2026 as a manifestation of inclusive collaboration among stakeholders. Involving 67 institutions, this event serves as a strategic platform to strengthen economic resilience, expand digitalization, and maintain food security through various intervention programs such as market operations and business empowerment via the Jawara program.
The momentum of stable economic growth at 5.61 percent in the first quarter of this year serves as strong capital for Jakarta. Synergy between monetary authorities and local government is expected to continue maintaining Jakarta's competitiveness as a global business center while facilitating the shift in consumer behavior toward a fully cashless society.
