PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTM) is further consolidating its position as the spearhead of the national energy transition roadmap. The company's focus is now directed towards the development of nickel downstreaming, which serves as the primary foundation for the supply of green technology raw materials, especially for the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia.
In an effort to accelerate industrial independence, ANTAM has established strategic collaborations with PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBI) and a global consortium including HYD Investment Limited, Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co., Ltd., EVE Energy Co., Ltd., and PT Daaz Bara Lestari Tbk. This cooperation is realized through the construction of an integrated battery production facility in Karawang, West Java.
The construction progress of the plant has now reached 90 percent and is scheduled to begin commercial operations by the end of July 2026. This ambitious project cost an investment of US$ 5.9 billion or approximately Rp 96.04 trillion. The initial production capacity will later be increased to reach a minimum of 15 GWh, which is projected to meet the needs of around 250,000 units of electric vehicles.
ANTAM's President Director, Untung Budiharto, emphasized that the company's involvement in six joint venture (Joint Venture) projects from upstream to downstream is a concrete form of commitment to the government's mandate. This step is expected to increase the added value of mineral commodities while strengthening Indonesia's competitiveness in the global supply chain.
ANTAM's own operational performance shows a significant positive trend. Throughout 2025, nickel ore production reached 16.11 million wet metric tons (wmt), surging 62 percent compared to the previous year. Nickel ore sales figures also broke a record high in the last decade with a total of 14.58 million wmt, reflecting high domestic demand following the ban on raw mineral exports.
