Responding to the escalation of volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau, which is once again showing signs of eruption, an expert from the Indonesian Disaster Experts Association (IABI), Dr. Daryono, emphasized the urgency of implementing more concrete and tactical mitigation measures. These steps are considered crucial to minimizing the risk of disaster impacts on communities in the affected coastal areas.
Dr. Daryono explained that the government needs to strengthen more responsive early warning systems and ensure that evacuation routes remain clear of obstacles. In addition, cross-sector coordination among relevant agencies must be tightened so that any potential threats, both in the form of ejected volcanic material and secondary threats such as tsunamis, can be mitigated with mature preparedness.
On the other hand, education for local residents regarding safety procedures during an eruption is also a key point. The public is urged to always follow official instructions from the vulcanological authorities and not to be provoked by unverified information during this period of increased volcanic activity status.
