Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara has once again shown significant volcanic activity. According to a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the eruption occurred on Thursday (July 9, 2026) at exactly 00:26 WITA.
Although the eruption was not visually observed by officers in the field, the seismograph recorded the eruptive activity with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 49 seconds. This record adds to the series of ongoing volcanic activity at the mountain over the past week.
Seismic data collected between 18:00 and 23:59 WITA on July 9, 2026, shows fairly intense activity fluctuations. In addition to one eruption earthquake, 17 emission earthquakes and 3 non-harmonic tremors were detected, indicating that pressure from inside the crater is still ongoing.
In response to these conditions, PVMBG is maintaining the Level III or Alert status for Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki. Local residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from conducting any activities within a 5-kilometer radius from the eruption center to anticipate unexpected hazards.
Additionally, MAGMA Indonesia data records that throughout 2026, there have been 3,039 eruptions from various volcanoes across the country. To date, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has recorded 353 eruptions during this period.
