Fishermen's activities in Pandeglang waters continue to run normally despite the status of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) currently being raised to Level III or Alert. Fishermen admit to continuing their daily fishing routines to support their families' daily economic needs.
Vice Chairman of the All-Indonesia Fishermen's Association (HNSI) Labuan Branch, Jumami, stated that his party has not issued a fishing ban for fishermen. Although there are concerns regarding increased volcanic activity, Jumami mentioned that fishermen in the area have long experience adapting to the characteristics of the volcano located in the middle of the sea.
"Concern is human, but eruptions are nothing new for fishermen here. They are used to this phenomenon and still have to work to ensure their families' survival," Jumami said on Sunday (5/7/2026). On the other hand, he also highlighted real challenges currently faced by fishermen, namely a 5 to 10 percent decline in catches over the past few months.
Responding to the situation, Acting Chief of Pandeglang BPBD-PK, Riza Ahmad Kurniawan, urged the public to remain calm and not be affected by disinformation. He emphasized that residents should not easily believe wild rumors about potential tsunamis that often circulate among the public.
Riza stressed the importance for coastal residents to refer only to official information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), and the BPBD. This step is considered crucial to maintaining information stability and ensuring the public receives accurate data regarding the developments of Mount Anak Krakatau's activity.
