Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, has once again shown a significant increase in volcanic activity. Throughout Wednesday (8/7/2026), the volcano was recorded experiencing seven eruptions lasting from the early hours of the morning until just before noon.
Reports from the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post state that the first eruption was detected at 00:11 WIB via seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 24 millimeters. The series of eruptions continued with varying intensity, where the ash column reached its peak height of 250 meters above the crater peak.
The Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post, Andi Suwardi, explained that the spewing ash column was observed to be gray to dense black. The distribution direction of the volcanic material dominantly moved towards the north and northwest, with recorded seismic amplitude reaching a maximum of 50 millimeters.
To date, the activity status of Mount Anak Krakatau remains set at Level III or Alert. Relevant authorities have issued a strict warning to the public, fishermen, and tourists to stay away from the crater area within a safe radius of five kilometers.
This preventive measure was taken considering the potential for subsequent eruptions is still very likely to occur at any time. Officers continue to monitor volcanic instability intensively in the area to ensure the safety of residents along the coast of the Sunda Strait.
