Mount Merapi has once again displayed significant volcanic activity dynamics on Friday (10/7/2026). Based on the latest monitoring data, the active volcano located on the border of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java was observed launching incandescent lava avalanches nine times.
The flow of volcanic material was observed heading toward the southwest sector, specifically toward the Sat River and Putih River channels, with a maximum travel distance of up to two kilometers. Although the avalanche activity was quite intense, visual conditions at the summit remained clear, with no crater smoke observed.
The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) reported that Mount Merapi currently maintains its Alert (Level III) status. In addition to the lava avalanches, seismic instruments recorded 42 avalanche earthquakes and nine multi-phase or hybrid earthquakes, indicating an ongoing magma supply beneath the surface.
Weather conditions around the 2,968-meter-high mountain above sea level were observed to be clear. Air temperatures on the slopes were reported between 15.8 and 17 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels ranging from 70.3 to 82 percent. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant regarding potential secondary hazards due to the ongoing volcanic activity.
