Deputy Speaker of the Gunung Mas Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Esriadi, firmly reminded all elements of society to increase vigilance amid unpredictable weather conditions. Although the region is entering the dry season phase, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning strikes still frequently occurs suddenly.
One of the main points highlighted by the Perindo Party politician is a strict prohibition against clearing land by burning. Such actions are considered extremely dangerous as they can potentially trigger massive and uncontrollable forest and land fires (karhutla), especially given the currently unstable weather conditions.
Esriadi also stressed the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness as a preventive measure to minimize disaster risks. He urged residents not to litter in drainage channels so that water flow remains unhindered. Additionally, the public is asked to proactively trim old trees or branches around their homes to prevent trees from toppling during strong winds.
Regarding personal safety, the public is advised to seek safe shelter during rainstorms. He emphasized that residents should avoid taking shelter under large trees or near billboards that risk collapsing at any time due to strong winds.
On the other hand, the legislative body also urged the Gunung Mas Regency Government to continuously intensify education on disaster preparedness. Through synergy between the government and the community, it is hoped that the risk of material losses and casualties due to weather changes can be minimized as much as possible.
