The impact of the dry season has begun to trigger food scarcity for wildlife in Bondowoso Regency, East Java. Troops of wild monkeys from the Arak-Arak Mountains, Wringin District, have reportedly begun descending to areas near the highway in search of food. To prevent potential friction between the animals and the local community, dozens of volunteers from various communities moved quickly to conduct an environmental care action on Friday (17/7/2026).
During the action, the activists distributed various types of tubers and fruits specifically chosen for their seeds. This step is not merely to address the temporary hunger of the monkey troops, but is also part of a long-term ecological strategy. Once the food was scattered in a safe area, the primate troops immediately came down from the trees to consume the food provided.
One of the volunteers involved in the action, Veny, explained that the choice of seeded fruit aims to allow the discarded seeds from the monkeys to grow naturally in the forest area. This method is expected to help restore the damaged forest ecosystem, as well as strengthen the function of the Arak-Arak mountain area as a natural water catchment area.
During the feeding process, the volunteers implemented strict procedures by maintaining a safe distance so as not to disturb the wild instincts and natural habitat of the animals. Similar social actions are planned to be held periodically, especially to anticipate the peak of the dry season, which is predicted to last for the next few months.
