The severe haze disaster that hit the Riau region in 2015 left deep scars for Anggi Wahyuda (25). The dark event not only damaged environmental sustainability but also drastically altered the course of Anggi's life after he lost his right leg in a traffic accident triggered by limited visibility.
While still in high school, the motorcycle ridden by the young man from Binjai was hit by a tanker truck amidst the thick smoke enveloping the road. The violent collision caused severe injuries to his right leg, forcing the medical team to perform an amputation to save his life.
Losing a limb caused Anggi's mental state to temporarily collapse. For two years, he suffered from severe depression, withdrew from social life, and was reluctant to leave the house for fear of facing stigma and ridicule from his surroundings. His self-confidence shattered to the point that he often arrived late to school on purpose to avoid attention from his peers.
The turning point of Anggi's struggle began during his final year of high school. Amidst the despair of his declining academic grades due to a long recovery period, the mockery and doubts from those around him actually sparked his determination to prove himself. He chose to learn to accept the situation and resolved to keep growing beyond his physical limitations.
Now, his hard work and acceptance have borne sweet fruit. Anggi has transformed into an inspiring content creator and a resilient disabled climber who has successfully conquered 30 mountain peaks in Indonesia. His life story is living proof that physical limitations are not an obstacle to achieving extraordinary feats.
