The Padang Pariaman Regency Government is taking strategic steps to strengthen health infrastructure at the village level. The Regent of Padang Pariaman, John Kenedy Azis, personally handed over the proposal for the construction of Auxiliary Health Centers (Pustu) to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia on the sidelines of a national forum on pediatric heart disease management at Dr. M. Djamil Central General Hospital (RSUP) in Padang.
The meeting took place during the Pediatric Cardiovascular Case Proctorship event on Thursday (July 30, 2026). The scientific forum, which was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health, the Governor of West Sumatra, regional heads, and hospital directors from across West Sumatra, focused on enhancing competence in handling congenital heart defects in infants and children.
The need to strengthen early detection and treatment of pediatric heart disease is urgent for Padang Pariaman. Data from the local Health Office shows that out of 2,842 infants born between January and June 2026, five cases of congenital heart disease were recorded, requiring prompt medical intervention and integrated referral.
Regent John Kenedy Azis emphasized that the construction of Pustu is a regional commitment to bringing quality basic healthcare services closer to remote nagari villages. He expressed hope that support from the central government could accelerate the provision of basic facilities to ensure the safety of mothers and children.
Through the submission of this proposal, the synergy between the regency government, the central government, and referral hospitals is expected to be further strengthened. This collaboration is targeted at accelerating the medical response to specific health cases and improving the overall health status of the community.
