The Regent of Temanggung, Agus Setyawan, placed a strong emphasis on environmental conservation while attending the Nyadran tradition in East Cemoro Hamlet, Cemoro Village, Wonoboyo District, on Friday (10/7). Amidst the solemn series of Merti Desa activities, he reminded the public that people residing in mountainous areas bear a greater moral responsibility to preserve the ecosystem.
In his address, Agus encouraged residents to actively plant more standing trees on their agricultural land. According to him, the presence of hardwood trees is not merely a landscape enhancement, but the front line in maintaining soil stability and preventing hydrometeorological disasters such as flash floods and landslides, which could severely impact downstream areas.
The philosophy behind the name "Cemoro" passed down by ancestors was also mentioned by the regent, who is affectionately known as Agus Gondrong. He expressed hope that the community could reflect the meaning of cool comfort inherent in that name through concrete actions in forest protection, ensuring the village's identity remains preserved alongside a healthy ecological balance.
In addition to environmental conservation appeals, Agus conveyed a collaborative message from Perum Perhutani KPH Kedu Utara. Residents utilizing state land were asked to shift their farming patterns by prioritizing hardwood plants over seasonal crops. This step is considered both a form of legal compliance and a strategic effort to ensure mountainous areas remain safe from long-term disaster risks.
