The Pontianak City Government highlighted the importance of strengthening the maternal and child health care system, following a recorded birth count reaching 11,667 people throughout 2025. The Mayor of Pontianak, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, emphasized that this high birth rate phenomenon demands the readiness of medical facilities and the active role of health workers to ensure the safety of mothers and babies.
Edi made these remarks during the 75th anniversary commemoration of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) in Pontianak. He described midwives as the front line with a strategic role in safeguarding public health standards, from pregnancy and childbirth to the development of toddlers.
Despite the high birth rate, the government continues to prioritize efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates through improving service quality and continuous mentoring. Synergy between the local government, professional organizations such as IBI, and the community is seen as the main key to the success of health programs launched by the central government.
Edi also emphasized the urgency of optimal monitoring during the First 1,000 Days of Life. According to him, intensive supervision from pregnancy until a child reaches two years of age is a fundamental step in creating a healthy and intelligent generation as capital towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
In response to this, the Chair of the Pontianak City IBI Branch Executive, Sri Mulyanti, stated her organization's commitment to continuously enhancing professionalism. She emphasized that the midwifery profession is a humanitarian calling that accompanies the community in every phase of life, not merely assisting during the delivery process.
