Producing Intellectual Scholar Cadres, UIN Bandung Rigorously Selects Candidates via the Kitab Kuning Track

UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung held a Qiroatul Kutub track selection for 59 prospective students to screen top talents with deep competence in classical Islamic scholarly traditions.

UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung has reaffirmed its commitment to producing a skilled generation of Muslim scholars and intellectuals by conducting the New Student Admissions (PMB) selection for the Qiroatul Kutub track. This initiative aims to recruit prospective students with specialized expertise in examining classical Islamic literature, or kitab kuning.

A total of 59 participants were registered for the selection process held on Tuesday (7/7/2026). The examination took place in a hybrid format, where participants completed online tests while the panel of examiners conducted evaluations directly at the Lecture Hall Building on the UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung campus.

Head of the PMB Center at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Dr. Mohamad Erihadiana, M.Pd., stated that this track is specially designed for prospective students with a strong background in pesantren (Islamic boarding school) education. According to him, mastery of kitab kuning is an important academic foundation for students in an Islamic higher education environment.

"We want to recruit a generation that is not only proficient in reading turats, but also possesses a broad national perspective and upholds religious moderation," Erihadiana said. He added that graduates are expected to become intellectuals capable of answering the challenges of the times with solid scholarly roots.

In this selection, participants were tested on three crucial aspects: Sihhatul Qiraah (reading accuracy), Fashahatul Qiraah (fluency), and Fahmul Maqru (comprehension of meaning). The test materials covered various disciplines, ranging from Aqidatul Awam to Fathul Qarib, tailored to the chosen study program of each participant.

One of the examiners, Drs. Zaenal Muttaqin, M.Ag., expressed positive appreciation for the quality of this year's participants. He assessed that the students' ability to read and understand the texts was at a very satisfying level. The final results of this prestigious selection track are scheduled to be officially announced on July 15, 2026, through the portal damba.uinsgd.ac.id.
