Samsung is reportedly preparing to launch its latest premium foldable smartphone line, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, in 2026. Reports reveal that the South Korean tech giant has successfully overcome a classic foldable phone issue: the crease in the middle of the screen, which is now designed to be virtually invisible.
This innovative step was first hinted at during CES 2026, when Samsung Display showcased a prototype of its next-generation flexible display. These rumors are now bolstered by leaked videos from the production line showing the extremely smooth surface of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra screen, reflecting light without any wavy distortion in the crease area.
While this crease-free technology promises improved aesthetics and OLED panel durability, analysts predict that the complexity of the new hinge will significantly drive up production costs. Under the hood, this Ultra variant will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, specially optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) processing and multitasking.
The official launch of the device is scheduled to take place at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold8 line, Galaxy Z Flip8, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The arrival of the Ultra series demonstrates Samsung's commitment to maintaining its dominance in the premium segment against fierce competition from Chinese rivals such as OPPO, Huawei, and HONOR, which are known for aggressively releasing slim foldables.
