The Bandung City contingent showed outstanding dominance in the West Java Regional Student Sports Week (Popwilda) 2026, which ran until June 26, 2026. This achievement not only solidifies Bandung's position as a regional student sports powerhouse but also ensures the participation of its athletes in the upcoming XV West Java Regional Student Sports Week (Popda).
In the pencak silat sport, Bandung City successfully claimed the overall championship title after dominating the medal tally with a total of 12 gold, five silver, and one bronze medals. The General Secretary of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) of Bandung City, Andra R. Malela, expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the athletes, coaches, and officials who consistently maintained discipline during the training period.
Andra emphasized that this success is a manifestation of a sustainable and measurable training process. According to him, the achievements at this regional level are expected to motivate the athletes to continue improving their abilities in preparation for greater challenges, both nationally and internationally, in line with the long-term vision of developing elite sports in Indonesia.
In addition to pencak silat, the men's football team also recorded a brilliant performance by sweeping all matches. The Bandung City team defeated opponents from Bandung Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency, Tasikmalaya City, and Garut Regency to secure the championship trophy.
Bandung City's football dominance was further cemented with Waliyuddin Shofa Arridho being named the top scorer of the tournament. This collective success proves the effectiveness of the athlete regeneration program implemented at the city level, while also serving as a strong signal of Bandung's readiness to face tougher competition at the XV West Java Popda.
